Nero 12 Platinum issues viewing Blu-Ray

I recently purchased and downloaded Nero 12 Platinum, in part to give me a method for viewing Blu-Rays. I haven't done much with it yet, but it does fine viewing Blu-Rays on my system until I go into full screen mode to get rid of the Windows controls, then everything freezes. All I see is a nice clear full screen shot of the video I had been watching.

My system is an Acer Aspire M3970. In short the system has an i3 (2nd gen) and Intel HD graphics, I have added a Blu-Ray drive, an SSD for my OS/programs, and maxed out the memory to 16GB, I have also added my Hauppauge 2250 tv tuner (which works well in full screen via Media Center and WinTV 7). I went into the BIOS and set my video memory allocation to the largest available size to see if it would make a difference, and it did not.

I have sent an email to Nero support, but I thought I would also ask here in case anyone had any ideas about what I could try while awaiting their guidance.

No solutions here but just wanted to let you know that I had major problems with Nero 12 Platinum. It would constantly freeze, and when it did work, it took literally 4 to 5 minutes for the Blu-ray disc to start playing. I deleted it from my system and got a refund.

I purchased PowerDVD 12 platinum and it works perfectly. I suggest you try their demo if you can't get Nero to behave for you.

Thanks for the idea... I haven't heard back from Nero yet... not a good sign to me...

Well, I am trying the trial version of PowerDVD 12... and so far I am hitting a brick wall. It won't play to a VGA monitor, it apparently requires HDMI or another digital connection for "copy protection" reasons... It now has me downloading an "advisor" to my system.

I got word back from Nero that they know about the problem, and it will be fixed with their next update. With PowerDVD for some reason not letting me play Blu-Rays across VGA, and having fewer features than Nero at the same price, I think I will hold on and see what Nero does. I have generally been happy with their products in the past, so I will give them a chance to make it right.

Meanwhile, I guess I will continue trying the various features I will use, and see what else I run into.

good news from Nero. I've had good experience with them in the past also, was disappointed that 12 didn't work out for me. If you would, please post whether or not the update fixed your problems. I may want to look at them again for my other machines.

I will try to keep this thread updated. Since the support person basically said the developers were working on it, I don't suspect that the fix is imminent, but I will try to remember to post info here when I get the fix as far as what issues may have been resolved.

Anything bluray or HD on PC requires an HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) compliant display which is only available via HDMI or DVI or Displayport. I don't think there will be an update to it as this is an issue of digital copy protection. If Nero is saying that they are going to release an update to solve your problem, then that will be a violation of digital copy protection. Refer to your bluray drive manual about HDCP compliant display.

I forgot to post my solution... You are right about the monitor connection. I figured I would try HDMI to see if I could get Power DVD to work, and it did (via an HDMI to DVI converter), and it also fixed Nero. I think it was still a bug, since the software should disallow and show a message, and not just freeze... but I haven't gone back to vga to see if it is handled properly with the patches that have been distributed since I had the issue.
