After a lot of frustration, I found the solution:

Open the Photos App.
Then Press Windows key + C to open the Charms bar.
Click Settings present at the Right pane to edit settings.
Ensure Picture Library is selected

Thanks! - That solved one part of my problem . . . . I was getting the 'Hidden, change settings' message too

Now - All my photos are stored in folders on the D drive - How do I make the Start Menu tile take me there instead of to the 'pictures library' when I click the tile?

TIA,

Don

None of these fixes work for me. Somehow, the Metro UI lost the ability to see or open any photo files. Photos app only loads videos. Tried every fix I can find but nothing works. Everything works fine with all my desktop applications, just the stupid Metro UI that cannot see any photos on my hard drive. Does see Facebook photos. Tried recreating Libraries, moving photo to another folder and then back. Anyone have any suggestions? It is the second time this has happened, the first time I had to reload Windows. I do not want to do this a second time. Better to stay with the desktop applications.
