[BUG REPORT] Games & Apps Run Windowed-Only

There’s this one problem in Windows 8 that I cannot get hold of, nor can I find a registry hack that can fix the same. When you launch a game or an application from the Start Screen, it opens up just fine and full screen to the edges, like I've shown below:

Once I got tired of playing the game and thought of switching to check my mail just for a second, I pressed Alt + Tab and got out of there. When I come back into the game, it is forever windowed and cannot be turned full screen unless the game is restarted, like shown below:

And this doesn't happen just for games like Need For Speed, but it also happened to me for Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.2:

See the title bar and the menu bar in the above image, that never came up for me when I was running Windows 7 Ultimate, it really sets the mood off when you’re editing photographs. The old clean, black-only and classic look has been diminished by Windows 8′s compulsory windowed mode rule.

Hello Amruth,

You might see if you may be able to press F11 while in the window to see if you will be able to toggle full screen mode to help.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Nope, F11 doesn't do anything in-game, nor does any other Function Key =(

Did you click the Maximize button next to the X? Your screen shot shows the window is not maximized.

The maximize button is disabled, and you can see that if you look closely at the screenshot. The maximize button is a bit faded, and hence doesn't do anything! :(
