I upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 8 and it worked fine for a few hours and after the first automatic update the metro apps wouldn't work anymore.I just click them and they flash and don't open anything. People suggested doing PC refresh and this solved the problem but I lost all my programs and driver software so I decided to do a clean factory reset because reinstalling all those programs manually would have taken days. I reinstalled windows 8 after doing a clean factory reset and the same thing has happened. It worked fine for a few hours and I had to restart my computer for a automatic update and the metro apps wouldn't open anymore. I'm assuming its something to do with the automatic updates but I'm really not sure. Any help would be appreciated

I uninstalled Kaspersky and reinstalled. Now everything works. Some of the other antivirus programs may cause the same behavior if you did an upgrade install.

Only way to fix this problem for me was to create a new username and delete the old one. Not really a solution per se, but necessary for me at this point.
