Hi

I'm using Windows 8 Pro from the past month or so. Suddenly, from yesterday, Metro apps won't connect to the Internet. I tried reconnecting, disconnecting and nothing worked. So, I did a clean install and they worked. But, as soon as I updated them, they stopped working. The Apps troubleshooter says I'm not connected to the internet. But, I am connected as I can use everything on the desktop. Please help

Isn't there any other way? sfc /scannow generated a log file but didn't fix anything. It said some files were corrupted though.

I did a clean install today morning! And now I have to refresh it? Oh god....

Do you happen to have Avast installed on your PC? Most likely that's the case.Update the program and restart the PC afterwards. It doesn't matter if it is the Free or the Paid version. After the restart, you would see in their update message that Avast is now fully compatible with Windows 8. Try using the Modern apps now and you would see a difference. :)

Seems like shell32.dll.mui is corrupted that happens mostly if the operating system is pirated or the system files have been hacked.

Well my OS is genuine. I did a system refresh. Everything is working now. Will get back after I install all softwares. Btw, how is it fixed? Only refresh eh?

Most likely it will go belly up again after installing updates. In my experience, it's been one particular hotfix that's caused the problem. If memory serves me correctly, the KB article for that hotfix ends in 872. Uninstalling it resolved the issue for me.
