Install software as administrator and registering OCX files HELP!!!!

Registering OCX files only works on built in administratoraccount but need it to work on "man made" admininstrator account. (I didn't think there would be a difference but there seems to be)
It is important that our BESPOKE database package works withWindows 8.
In order for it to work it has to be ran As Administratorfor every user (shared MS Access database).
It is therefore important to register its OCX files to getall functionality to work.

1. Created Administrator account install

When installed on a “man made” account withfull administrator permissions it won’t register the ocx files (c:\windows\syswow64 then register each one)

Thus, software will not run as administrator


2. Built in Administrator account install

Installs the software, just like above andwhen registering the ocx files (as above) it registers fine, no errors)

Thus, the software runs fine on this login.

I am, like everyone I suppose, new to Windows 8, I thinkthere is a discrepancy somewhere between the built in administrator and a “manmade” one.
Either way, this is not getting my software installed onWindows 8 and I can’t meet my deadline, could someone please help explain offersome guidance.

Have you tried registering them manually in an elevated command prompt with the created (vs. built-in) admin account?

With regards to elavated, I am unsure what you mean.

I type in cmd as administrator (in the search bar)

When the command prompt comes up I go

c:\windows\syswow64

then register the files (I run a batch file which registers each one in turn)

I insure the UAC is at the bottom.

Is this what you mean by elevated?

I spoke with a computer company, they thought it might be an issue with local security settings.

It still doesn't make sense why the main built in one works but a created one doesn't. I know OCXs are old but need to get this archaic software running on windows 8 as our new software is taking time to develop.

Again, please help.

Even dedicated admin accounts sometimes need to elevate the privileges of a program (which includes the command prompt and PowerShell).

Type CMD to search for the command prompt.
Right click and choose "Run as Administrator" (or press ctrl+shift+enter)
Hit "yes" at the UAC prompt
Register the OCX files

But I think that is just the same as typing in "cmd as administrator"

Not in office now til tomorrow morning (I am in UK)

Anybody, please help, it would be like christmas tomorrow morning if I get a load of suggestions.

Please help, need to get it sorted, it is very frustrating.

It's not the same thing. My first comment in my reply was that even the Administrator sometimes needs to elevate an executable. Yes, thus means that even if you are logged in as an admin, you may still need to elevate.

OK thanks, will try 1st thing tomorrow morning, are you from UK? I will post reply as soon as I have tried.

Windows 8 not out til tomorrow, feel it has been bugging me for years, ha.

I'm in the US (although I do have friends and family from London and Manchester). Let me know how it works out!
