Why no App

So all you Modern UI evangelists. I'm interacting with this forum on my iPad EightForums App. How many of you are using the Microsoft Modern UI app on your Surface. Oh sorry there isn't one.
Even EightForums don't think it is worth bothering with! Lol

I use this on my iPhone through the app as well majority of the time. I guess maybe EightForums will develop one for Microsoft soon for Windows 8 users...

Might be worth it once Surface tablets sales reach 3 dozen

And at least it saves all those warehouses standing empty.

Probably because my internet browser or OS isn't handicapped by a lack of Flash player support, GPU acceleration, and a lack of access to a file system....

Or it also could be that there has been a metro designed theme for Eight Forums...

Metro app not worth it

Who needs Flash, there are few Flash only sites and those are declining. Only a lazy designer/developer will rely on it anymore, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript and server side technologies provide a much richer and accessible experience across all platforms.

The iPad user base is huge and as a designer/developer I would be a fool to exclude that audience by producing a Flash only site.

What has Flash, GPU acceleration etc got to do with a forum app. There's one for the iPad because there are so many out there, its demand driven. Must not be any demand for Metro apps!

So I exit my Modern UI and goto my desktop, open a browser window and load EightForums, then I change the theme to a Metro one so I can pretend I'm in the modern UI.

YouTube, Yahoo, and every other news/video content site that doesn't have a decent mobile website that doesn't have all their video content in a proper mobile format...

And what those things have to do is the fact that safari on ios isn't EVEN close to IE 10 on a Windows 8 tablet PC on x86. Also, I personally see little need to use an app to browse a site with a 10 inch screen, regardless of it's android, ios, or Windows tablet. If you have a top notch internet browser, most of the need for apps on a tablet isn't needed, only if it's for smartphones, which is understandable, it's not easy to work a site like this on a smartphone if it's not on the mobile version. But when you have a larger screen, targets are easier to tap on. If they're not, pinch to zoom. I choose to use the Desktop version of a site on a Windows tablet (as that's the only way to browse, this isn't IE Mobile like on Windows Phone), not some dinky mobile site that browsing with an ipad will revert to by default.

But this is just me....

HA! What's more sad is that you say there is little use for the metro apps, but then have to say that there is no app for EightForums for an OS for PC's, a not neutered smartphone OS. Do you not see the flaw in this thinking?

You miss the point. I don't want an app. I am pointing out that a forum dedicated to Windows 8 with Modern UI lovers like yourself don't have an app for your beloved Modern UI yet do or produce one for iOS, even though it is perfectly possible to use the web app in a browser on the iPad.

The only reason an app would be developed would be if it was felt there is sufficient demand clearly there isn't, hence no Modern UI app.

Some Metro lovers miss it so much that they had to make a desktop browser app look like one, that's whats sad!

Or, I don't know.. here's a thought.. whoever developed the iOS app only knows iOS, and there isn't anyone else on the team that is doing any Metro app development.

That couldn't be it though.. nah.. logic is lost on some people.

You're also missing the point here, Windows 8/RT are operating systems for TABLET PCs, PCs.

Now if this was about Windows Phone 8, yeah I can see the argument there. The app for EightForums is as you said, for ios. What type of operating system is ios? Is one for say... PCs? I highly doubt you regard your ipad as a PC, if you do, oh boy! ios is predominately used on iphone, as well as the ipod touch and the larger ipod touch and the more giant ipod touch. The fact that the EightForums app for ios is used on the ipad (tablet) is more or less merely due to the VERY SAME OS that a tablet form factor and smartphone form factor share.

And no, the only real demand for an app of a website as I see it is either a) the mobile site sucks, b) the web site was coded for primarily desktop and other PC usage and therefore, some dependents like Flash player don't run on the mobile platforms or c) content on the website isn't easily accessible via touch. Generally, these apps are mainly geared for ios, android, and Windows Phone handsets, not really for tablets. And partly yes, there is no demand for an EightForums app on Windows 8 as right now, it's being used on non-touch PCs mostly, like desktops and laptops. So screen estate on those PCs isn't limited and can have internet browsers that render the correct Desktop version of the site that is hugely used. Until Windows 8/RT tablets get to under 8 inches of screen size, then maybe yes, this can be discussed with merit as using a Desktop version of EightForums becomes sucky with such a small screen. Until then, I'd rather see a Windows Phone app developed over a Windows 8 one. Also, seeing as I use a desktop with Windows 8, I'm not going to be using an app to access said site when IE 10 does it perfectly fine.

I personally don't have this site rendered in the metro skin, as I don't like it as navigation is iffy to use, mostly because it's not a totally great rendition of the metro design concept (no offense to anyone to who designed it, I'll gladly help out to improve it ).

Now this question I pose, if I can use a netbook (with it's small screen size) and effectively use it to browse the internet like this forum, why must there be an app for something that has a relatively similar sized screen?

So why are there any apps available for PCs? if They are for mobile platforms, so is the Modern UI. None should have a place in a proper desktop OS. QED.

So a Windows forum can't find a Windows developer?

OK I know that forum web applications are generic and not developed just branded by the end user but if there was demand out there someone would have developed a Metro version.
