Not able to play DVD over network

My new Windows 8 machine does not have a DVD drive. I was hoping to play movies over the network. I "shared" the DVD drive which is installed in my Windows 7 machine. I mapped the drive to Y: on the Win8 machine. I can see it, it has two subfolders AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS but I cannot find a...

    Solved Missing Internet Explorer Tile

My Internet Explorer Tile has stopped working and is now missing. I did not install any other Internet Browsers. I did try to add a second Internet Explorer tile that opens the regular Internet Explorer. That didn't work and now the normal tile is gone. When in the Start Screen, typing...

I don't have a Homegroup setup and file sharing is turned off, and yet there are several items listed under "Network" in File Explorer. My two other computers are always listed there, even when they are turned off. I can even access and browse one of these computers (when it is turned on)...

    Windows To Go Installation questions

I have a ton of questions, so without further adieu: (1) Can you install Windows To Go into a VHD on a USB flash drive? (2) Once you've installed Windows To Go on a USB flash drive, can you use Truecrypt or Bitlocker to secure it? (3) After installing Windows To Go on a USB flash drive, can...

    Brother 2270DW

Brother 2270DW does not appear to be fully compatible with Windows 8 (even though it is listed as compatible). I tried installing it over a wired network connection and it did not work until I manually added it as a printer and configured it. I hope they release updated drivers soon.

Impressive detection/identification of hardware, with one exception

When I installed Windows 7, there were tons of devices on my Asrock Z77 Extreme4 motherboard that were detected but not identified. Windows 8 detected, identified and installed drivers for all of them except for 1. (In fairness, I have disabled some stuff in the motherboard, like infrared...

ISO creation tool--anything better than imgburn?

I've been using imgburn. Seems ok, but everytime I download it I have to be very careful not to download or install other junk. Is there anything better out there? It doesn't have to be free, but I want something simple, with a small footprint, and no malware, foistware etc. I could be wrong...

Windows 8 Interface Sanity Tweaks--please share yours!

I have Windows 8 running in VHD, and I am trying to learn how to use it. Keeping this objective and unemotional if possible. Here are helpful tweaks I've adopted so far: Shutdown keystrokes: Alt-F4 while right clicking on the taskbar. Very intuitive ;) I pinned the Control Panel to the...

    Solved Explaining Bitlocker and TPM

I do not understand TPM storing encyrption key on motherboard. What exactly does that protect against? Someone taking your hard drive and trying to mount it in a different computer? Not very likely. The more likely scenario is they take your whole computer. What am I missing?

My top 2 reasons to upgrade to Windows 8--share yours

I am perfectly happy with Windows 7 on the desktop, but I did find two reasons for upgrading to Windows 8: (1) I can now open ISO files natively. I chose not to include a CD-ROM in my machine, so this will come in very handy. BUT WIN 8 UNFORTUNATELY DOES NOT INCLUDE THE ABILITY TO CREATE...
