I just wanted to say that this problem seems to not be specific to your device. I have an Asus Aspire laptop and I seem to have the same issue (see here -> http://www.eightforums.com/drivers-hardware/53459-advanced-boot-options-screen-not-working.html) I will see if your fix works for me too!
