Hi and thanks again, I havent loaded anything from CD it has only happened since i merged the 2 partitions :( ... I did set a restore point but since running win 8.1 apparently i cant just restore which i didnt know before i started this mess!

Thanks again CountMike, but does that help the flicking problem where it checks all drives including the CD Rom and closes my Windows Explorer if it is open?

Thanks CountMike, yes I had a C: D: E: and F: with C and F being on the same physical drive and D and E on the other. I am running Windows 8.1 now what? .... :(

ok so shoot me now!! I run Windows 8 on a Laptop that I recently purchased, it had 2 drives with a partition each, but the C drive was so small it was ridiculous, so I merged the C and F drives, there was nothing on F and all went smoothly. I used AOMEI Partition Assistant Standard Edition 5.5...
