Mozilla Firefox ESR Will Support Windows 8 and Windows 8.1

All because I asked the question at Bugzilla! Otherwise, we'd be still waiting for a decision. https://www.ghacks.net/2023/03/28/firefox-to-support-windows-7-and-8-systems-well-into-2024-at-least/ So at least support into Q3 of 2024

Windows 8.1 support from Microsoft will end on January 10, 2023

Well, I’ll count myself lucky. On Windows 8, I likely won’t have to consider such action until October, but with state of supported browsers, I’ll move off the OS once Firefox ESR support is taken away. Edit: We now have some clarification on this. Turns out that Dave 67 here is the same...

Windows 8.1 support from Microsoft will end on January 10, 2023

Now Dave, did you have to install some ESU bypass to do that? I'm hearing from MSFN that the updates are being rolled back. On Windows 8, I am able to just install Server 2012 update, just after downloading. Are you not able to do just the same on Windows 8.1?

Windows 8.1 support from Microsoft will end on January 10, 2023

So did you attempt installing the Server 2012 R2 update onto your Windows 8.1 installation? I’m curious to see how it went. 😁

Install Windows Server 2012 updates on Windows 8

Yeah Christian was just touting the "Microsoft Line". Yes there can possibly be the odd compatibility issue with updates from a server OS. However, they are also labelled as windows8rt-kbxxxxx.msu. It's all from the same codebase.

Windows 8.1 support from Microsoft will end on January 10, 2023

Well my last update was ,,,, KB5020003 for November, It's for Server 2012 and I used it for Windows 8. Now let's pretend that Windows 8.1 is now out of support. KB5020010 is the update for Server 2012 R2, and yes that would "likely" patch Windows 8.1

Windows 8.1 support from Microsoft will end on January 10, 2023

I went and looked at that stuff though. They don't REALLY say what they do to improve it. The videos seem sorta dodgy too. I'm on Windows 8. I just updated using the latest Server 2012 Security Only Quality update. Mt sytem runs like a dream

Windows 8.1 support from Microsoft will end on January 10, 2023

Correct. Server 2012 and 2012 R2 exit support as of October 2023, so ESU updates would commence for both in November of 2023.

I don't think so - I'm trying to find that out right now :)

Server 2012 Updates for R2 will work on Windows 8.1, and extend your time until October 2023.

    Flash Removal in Windows Updates

I actually love being able to come to this forum for a change and actually have useful, current and engaged discussion on Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. So often, this forum is just used for Windows Mail integration, Windows 10 upgrading, or games. I love being able to discuss current Windows...

    Flash Removal in Windows Updates

Oh I hear ya! But I have customized every Windows installation since 98 SE. I'll take the Classic Shell. :)

    Flash Removal in Windows Updates

Actually, Windows 8 is what I'm using, so it's definitely relevant. The effect of Server 2012 updates and Flash vs the use of Windows 8.1 updates bears the same result. Plus, it's nice to actually have some relevant conversation on this forum, on the OS that this forum is ACTUALLY about. So...

    Flash Removal in Windows Updates

As does Windows 8 when using Classic Shell :D. I don't know about the weather app (or any Metro apps). I've eradicated them from my system.

    Flash Removal in Windows Updates

Since 2016. Unfortunately, this forum never really embraced this, but it was a hit on MSFN. https://msfn.org/board/topic/175105-server-2012-updates-on-windows-8/

    Flash Removal in Windows Updates

How would I be any better off on Windows 8.1 than on Windows 8 with Server 2012 updates? You realize Server 2012 and Windows 8 are CODEBASE IDENTICAL right? Even the updates are called Windows8RT-KBxxxxx. Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1 are alike as well. The updates are indeed effective...
