I tried this but got as far as step 3, hit enter, and then the eRecovery software didn't open up. I have a Gateway and not a Acer so I dont know if thats a different, or they're the same thing. Here's the screen I get. Any suggestions?
How can I check if he wiped the partitions? I know what a partition is and I checked the status of my HDD under computer management but I'm not sure what I should be looking for. I've updated my specs too. Its a Gateway NE45R34u
The recovery disk you create as soon as you buy your new laptop right? I don't believe I did. Does that mean I need to get a recovery disk from Gateway?

I have a Windows laptop that came with originally windows 8, but then I had a friend put a copy of Windows 7 on. It worked pretty well but now I'd like to switch back to Windows 8. Am I able to do that?
