Anyone else having this problem? Latest updates installed, Windows 8.1 Windows Media Player will not play AVI files. All other file types work fine. Windows Movie Maker won't recognize them either. Is there a fix? Thanks, wws

The function keys never worked at any point. I bought the laptop with Windows 8 installed, then upgraded to 8.1 when it was available. I talked to Toshiba when 8 was installed.

I have tried flashing the new BIOS, but it did not do anything. Any other ideas? I am this close to returning the laptop... Thanks, wws

You're alright. Yes I have tried toggling the switch, but to no avail. I assume I shouldn't flash your BIOS on my laptop right?

No I've never disassembled the laptop. The function keys (F1, F2, F3) work OK, it's the special FUNCTIONS that don't work (brightness, volume, wifi, etc.) Plugging in a external keyboard wouldn't help because they don't have the specialized functions. Thanks for your assistance!

I installed the driver, no dice. I think the function keys might not even be wired to the mobo cause when I use a keyboard tester the FN key doesn't work.

Could you provide a link for that version? I can't seem to find it on Toshiba's download area.

my2cents, I have talked to Toshiba and after a few hours with them, they said that the "OS is corrupted" and I need to do a full wipe and restore. This also happened with Windows 8 too though. popeye, I will try that driver, but I have had no success with the previous versions.
