That's too bad. For some reason I feel it just makes the metro screen look ugly. plus if they did let you of rid of it you could get another row of live tiles.

Hey thanks for the replies. exactly what David posted. Is there a way to get rid of the word "start" and just have the background image? I like metro, I just don't like that graphic. Even replacing the word "start" with a clock would be better and more useful.

I hope someone knows how to change this because for some reason it drives me crazy. As we all know the word "Start" appears on the top left hand corner of the win8/8.1/RT metro home screen. Is there anyway to get rid of it? Thanks in advance for your help.
