Any idea on what is causing slowdowns?

Thanks TarikuOkami, Well last night I scanned a 30 page document which was done in segments (per page) of around 100kb each. On trying to move them one folder to another, it was PAINFUL to say the least. The first 10 moved instantly, then it got stuck at 49% and took almost 2 minutes before it...

Any idea on what is causing slowdowns?

Slight update - I ran the optimize and also uninstalled Avast Premier... "seems" ok so far but time till tell over the next few days Also disabled hardware acceleration in Chrome which has sped that up Still does not feel as slick as the spec should be especially when comparing to a much lesser...

Any idea on what is causing slowdowns?

Thanks both Cliff S: Interesting point - I keep thinking it is indeed the SSDs causing the issue because if CPU was being maxed out, I'd see it hopefully in task manager but more to the point, the fans would be going nuts. This is not the case - nor is memory and even to touch, memory is fairly...

Nope no changes made there Anything in particular you're thinking that could be a cause? Should note, I am on the latest set of updates and on 8.1 Pro

Any idea on what is causing slowdowns?

Hi all, I have a bit of a strange one in terms of performance. The system in question is a Dell Precision M3800 with 16GB ram and 2x SSDs (Crucial CT480M500) and Liteon LCS412M65) - The timeline is as follows: 1. Start machine from cold boot and it's into windows very quickly and runs as...

Windows search 8.1 not finding XLS content

Check under the indexing options (control panel) and then advanced settings that the xls file type has not been unchecked under file types Also if I'm not mistaken, the indexing by default does not index the entire C:\ or whatever so you may need to specify more areas if you do not leave your...

Randomly slow/locking up - can't seem to track down the is

Sorry all, I didn't get any notifications (I don't think) so didn't check the thread. For whatever reason, the system seems to have stabilised. I still want to do one more format/reinstall as I've had to do a few "dirty" shutdowns when it locked up In terms of Ztrucker's response: Memory...

Randomly slow/locking up - can't seem to track down the is

Thanks MasterChief I did toy with the idea that it could be Avast but I guess my issue with that is that why is it sometimes ok and other times not? I also distinctively remember this issue happening before Avast was installed. I didn't realise MSE is now at the level of Avast/Kaspersky etc...

Solved Is there a way to reset a Microsoft account?

Excellent thanks Brink I did have a quick search but I guess my terms were wrong. Also I def selected setup as a new PC but I wonder once you're in and signed in, it then syncs back to the account? Hopefully if anyone has any ideas in regards to the performance issue (another thread), I'll do...

Will give the the BSOD link a read at the gym tonight - best bit of cardio material I've seen in a while :- ) In terms of before/after reports, the only issue there is I rebuilt the laptop from scratch without VirtualBox so unsure whether you would get anything from the report tool ? Obviously...

    BSOD: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE help please

Thanks usasma Apologies for the bump earlier - it was a mixture of a lot of frustration and annoyance I did finally get to the bottom of it minutes before your reply - It was not actually Windows 8.1 or the drivers causing it but Virtualbox causing the issue. I decided to start again, this time...

    BSOD: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE help please

Sorry to push this but I'm sure there is more damage going on with it not shutting down each time than good so would appreciate if someone can help out with the logs. I may just bite the bullet and format tomorrow again but this time test @ each driver installation providing it lets it get that far

Solved W8 picking up old serial?

Fixed looks like it does indeed pick up the serial from somewhere Creating a notepad txt file called pid.txt and putting into the /sources folder on the usb stick with W8 media will override it. The contents of the file is [PID] Value=XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX Where xxxxx is the serial...

Solved W8 picking up old serial?

Sony Vaio Pro 13 BSOD (I think)

Thanks for the response. I don't think it is fast start causing it as the laptop is not in a shutdown state but sleep state. Having said that, I disabled it anyway to test it but 2-3am, same issue. On top of this, having then turned it off using the switch/hold down for a few seconds as I did...
