BitLocker - Turn On or Off for OS Drive in Windows 8

Hi Shawn, Been a while since someone posted on this topic, but I am keen on using Bitlocker and giving it a go for its simplicity as an encryption tool. My question is, if I encrypt, say a Thumb drive or external HDD using Bitlocker on Windows 10, would I then be able to go on to another...

LMB morphed into RMB,scroll wheel began zooming - Help

Hi Guys, This problem I'm about to describe has happened to me on 2 separate occassions, once about 3 months ago and last night. I was just doing some surfing and "using MS Word" [could be part of the problem] when all of a sudden weird things started happening. My Word doc started to zoom in...

EUESU folder with lots of small files. Was in my 'startup'

Hi All, I noticed today a strange entry in my startup list. I often check to see what is there just incase there is something I don't need starting up with the system and can disable. Today I noticed an entry called "Start.vbs" in a folder called "EUESU" in my Users directory...

My Windows 8 Laptop does not see My Windows 7 Laptop

Thanks guys. Have done all those check points and then some. Yes it does work when typing in the actual IP address at the top in File Explorer from the Windows 8 Laptop, but in reverse it does not work from the Windows 7 laptop, so technically I guess it somewhat solves the problem when at...

My Windows 8 Laptop does not see My Windows 7 Laptop

This is start to get to me as I can't figure out why my 2 laptops are not communicating over my Home network. Both connect via a Wireless Modem Router. In Windows Explorer my Windows 7 Laptop can see my Windows 8 Laptop however when I click on it, I get "Windows cannot access \\[my computer...

    ATF Cleaner

Just ran ATF Cleaner after using the standard CCleaner [without CCenhancer] and it found an additional 38 MB of crap. Not much I guess but it doesn't hurt to run ATF Cleaner, it's quite quick.

    delete recovery partition

I think DELL's purpose here is since they no longer ship most laptops with an OEM DVD of the OS [but for an optional fee they will :p], they ask you to create your own recovery disks using their pre-installed DELL backup and recovery software already on the system when you get it delivered which...

    delete recovery partition

thanks guys @ theog - I created the Recovery partition on 3 DVD's as per Dells included software and since I now have the OS a new drive, I don't mind reclaiming an extra 10GB of space. The reason I am keeping the original drive [its a 1TB HDD] with the OS still on it, is that I heard...

    delete recovery partition

I am just curious about the part he asks: "Is your recovery partition before or after your windows partition?" He gives details on if its before.. what if it's after if that makes any difference??

    delete recovery partition

Hey Brooklyn, I am basically in the same situation as the OP, I installed an SSD and put windows 8 on that and moved the HDD into the second drive bay of the laptop [it has 2 drive bays], but left the HDD as was, it also has WIndows 8 on it, thats how I got it from DELL, meaning I didn't delete...

DISM - Fixing Component Store Corruption in Windows 8

Thanks Brink, however I guess I still don't know why [1] The Disk cleanup keeps pausing 2/3 of the way through when cleaning the System Restore and Shadow Copies option and [2] why it did not respond when I ran DISM /Scanhealth command. I think I may leave it for now and not worry about it too...

DISM - Fixing Component Store Corruption in Windows 8

Ok Brink, will give it a go, see what it says, however as mentioned, other than that "Disk Cleanup" issue, I can't see much wrong with the system

DISM - Fixing Component Store Corruption in Windows 8

The Windows 8 Built-in "disk cleanup". Nothing else was running that I know would have interfered with the clean-up process. I have noticed it has happened on a few occassion at about the same point.

DISM - Fixing Component Store Corruption in Windows 8

Well from what I can see everything was working fine before I did the DISM and all appears ok now as well. The reason I tried running the DISM command is that on a couple of occasions "Disk Cleaner" seems to get stuck in the midst of cleaning out the updates after I have installed them. It...

DISM - Fixing Component Store Corruption in Windows 8

Hey Brink I waited for over 30min and off memory I think there was HDD activity. As per my other post, does it have any relation to "Windows Module Installer Worker" as I noticed both were using about 17% of CPU. Anyway, I figure it was either looping or stuck and just closed the command...

DISM - Fixing Component Store Corruption in Windows 8

Hi All, I have typed in the /Scanhealth command and it has been running for a lot longer than the suggested 5 - 10 minutes.. been almost 30 min and its still going. Is this [or any relation to] the Windows Module Installer Worker ???
