I am having the same problem: Can't get to my XP machine from WIN 8. I don't see the solution that your talking about. I can get from XP to WIN 8 and can access the WIN 8 machine in Win explorer from XP machine but I can't see XP machine at all on my WIN 8 machine. Going Nuts here!! Please...
