Which Anti Virus Should I Use To Protect Windows 8 ?

I use Avast -free edition. Good enough protection for me....never been infected. If I was buying one I'd probably get Kaspersky, BitDefender, or F-Secure. Those are always near the top in detection. According to the latest test, Kaspersky and F-Secure tied for first place as the lightest AV...

    Windows 8 Pro to Core

So you did get it installed and activated? That's how I installed mine also....in Legacy mode with MBR formatted disk. I didn't want to use UEFI/GPT anyway. That's one of the reasons I re-installed clean to begin with. Some of the features of Acronis True Image, like Try and Decide and...

    Windows 8 Pro to Core

Hmm, the en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso worked for me. All I did was go into the BIOS and change from UEFI to legacy mode and switch the boot order so it would boot from cd first. It didn't ask me for the KEY during install, and installed the Core edition automatically. I just checked, and...

    Windows 8 Pro to Core

Which ISO do you have? I downloaded this one and it contains both Pro and Core editions --> en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso (SHA1: 1CE53AD5F60419CF04A715CF3233F247E48BEEC4). Depending on which product key you use, it will either install the Pro or Core edition. When I used it to re-install the...

Solved Need an .iso to do a clean reinstall

I have the exact same laptop as you ... Acer Aspire V3-771G-9809. I just added a second hard drive yesterday. I was able to do a clean install of Windows 8 to the new hard drive by downloading this Windows 8 ISO ---> en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso. Just do a Google search for it, shouldn't...

    Solved File Access Denied

I don't have Photoshop. Converting to PNG removes the metadata, but increases the file size a lot. I just tried FastStone Image Viewer, and it did have the option to remove the Metadata like you said. Looks like a pretty neat program!

    Solved File Access Denied

When you right click on a photo and go to Properties -> Details , there is a link at the bottom called Remove Properties and Personal Information that will remove the camera EXIF data, GPS location and other metadata. I took a photo on my iPad and emailed that picture to my Windows 8 laptop...

Solved What is this on my lock screen

Thanks all. I found out it's from an app called 'Astronomy Picture of the Day'. One of many apps I downloaded from the app store and forgot about.

Solved What is this on my lock screen

I just bought a new laptop that came with Windows 8 pre-installed. On the lock screen there is a tiny picture of the planet Saturn with the number 10 next to it. I'm pretty sure it was a different number the other day. What is it? Edit: After doing some searching, it appears to be a...

    Windows SmartScreen

Oh, ok. Thanks. So is the built-in AV any good? I tried to install Avast but was told it had compatibility issues.

    Windows SmartScreen

I tried to install some programs I had on my external HD and a big green banner popped up across the screen saying: "Check your Internet connetion. Windows SmartScreen is unreachable and can't help you decide if this program is okay to run." I finally figured out I had to click on 'more info'...

Windows 8 - What do you think?

I waited a while before trying Vista just because of all the negative things people were saying about it. I actually believed it sucked....that was until I tried it. I still don't understand all the hate for Vista. Vista 64bit has been 100% rock stable and fast for me....same as with Windows...

Windows 8 - What do you think?

I've been playing with it all day. I think it SUCKS! I can't stand Metro. Who the hell thought this was a good idea for the desktop!? I know you can use the registry hack to disable Metro, but then it is basically Windows 7. I see no point in upgrading. For the first time I'm...
