    This Weeks Update (June10?) Failure

Yes, I got them directly from Intel's website. I also tried downloading it from Lenovo's website. Everything works fine if I boot into safe mode, but of course you can't access Windows Update from Safe Mode so I can't actually uninstall the updates without doing a system restore.

    This Weeks Update (June10?) Failure

So nobody has any suggestions on this? I've gotten around it for now by telling Windows to let me decide when to install updates, but I don't like not having the latest updates installed.

    This Weeks Update (June10?) Failure

I've run into a similar issue recently - first on Thursday (did a system restore to before I installed a program the day before, and everything worked fine) then again this morning (after the updates reinstalled themselves again). Looking through the system log, I see two items that could...

Solved Windows shows installed updates are available

The problem seems to have corrected itself. When I shut down last night, it wanted to install updates again (supposedly the two that were already installed) and went through the usual process of configuring stuff when I booted up again this morning. Now the two updates that were previously...

Solved Windows shows installed updates are available

I have been having some strange issues related to the big update that was released yesterday (specifically, the one labeled as KB2919355 in Windows Update). When I went to download the update, the progress indicator froze at "4% Complete". When I went to shut down last night, it actually...

Nothing but a blank "Windows" screen

Further update... I thought that fixed the problem, but it seems to have been random luck. Once I get it to boot from the CD and enter all the info, the installer wants to restart, and as soon as that happens, it sits there on a blank "Windows" screen again and the installer never continues. If...

Nothing but a blank "Windows" screen

One final update on this. I finally figured out the trick to making it work... When VirtualBox boots up, I have to hit F12 and change the boot device from "IDE Master" to "Cd-rom". I'm not sure why that works, but it does.

Nothing but a blank "Windows" screen

Trying again to see if I can make it work this time. Laptop has 4GB of RAM and 256MB of dedicated graphics memory. Currently running Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit with appropriate processor virtualization enabled (I've got several 64-bit Linux VMs on my external hard drive as well and they work...

Nothing but a blank "Windows" screen

Ok. I'll try it again when I get a chance and leave it sitting for a while to see if it ever decides to do something. I haven't really played much with Win 8 at this point but I'm definitely not impressed with the Metro UI.

Nothing but a blank "Windows" screen

I am not having any luck trying to install the Win 8 Release Preview (64-bit) on Virtualbox. After creating the machine, etc., I power it up and it just sits there with a black screen that says "Windows" on it, and nothing else. The tutorials I've seen online don't seem to indicate that I need...

Blue Screen of Death Lives On in Windows 8

I've gotten that screen too many times to count already. Apparently Windows 8 and VirtualBox don't get along too well.

Windows 8 - What do you think?

It looks interesting, but like others, I'm also not crazy about the whole Metro UI thing, and the "click and drag up to unlock" is also annoying. I'm hoping they'll refine this or come to their senses and give us an option of what we want to use by the time Win 8 is finally released. I haven't...
