All antiviruses detect RATs, and they detect crypters(making rats undetectable) unless the RAT has been specially hex edited. Disabling remote access doesn't affect the RAT.

I'd suggest running virus scans, if the ratter keeps making this impossible then a bootable AV CD.

Of course he's been ratted, I don't think you can send/receive files send error messages and chat with remote desktop and some chatting software...
