    I had the same problem trying to boot from 8.0 and 8.1 on aUSB install on my Pro 1 with the SD card installed. After removing my SD card I was able to do a clean installof 8.1.

    I have not had to delete any folders to make it work. Just tellit where not to save, and then tell it the new location to save the recordingor live tv buffer. I have done this with Windows 7 and 8.1 with no problems. Good luck with all of this, hope it works out for you.

    I forgot to tell you to go back into Recorder then Media Libraries then Remove folders from the library then select remove Public Recorded TV. That way it will not see the Public Recorded TV folder and will only save to the folder that you made.

    I have mine on a different drive with no problems at all. Just create a folder on the drive you want to use, then tell Media Center where it is. Add the new folder to media libraries, then in recording change to the drive you want to use.

    You need to disable secure boot first. Volume up then power button, then disable secure boot save and exit. To boot to usb you use volume down then power button. It will see your usb or dvd drive and then boot to it. I just did this to my surface pro to make an image.

    I have done a reset from the store install and clean install from this download with no problem. I used the instructions from here. http://www.eightforums.com/installation-setup/33164-how-download-windows-8-1-iso.html. I have the win8.0 upgrade that Microsoft offered, I think it was around $30.
