Sounds like you may have installed a fake malwarebytes that is really a virus. Did you download it from malwarebytes.org? That is the correct place to do it. Also, is the AVG the paid or free version?

I would send it in under warranty. If it is as described, totally losing power while plugged in, could be the motherboard.
