Last time the internet dropped, we connected our laptop directly to the modem and we still had no internet. I guess I will call my ISP and see what they can do for me. It just seems weird that I didn't have any issues until I installed Win 8.

Thanks for the response. I have talked with my ISP (knology) and they can find no issues on their end. What I mean by "bypass the router", is that when the internet goes down, I have tried connecting my computer directly to the modem yet I still have no internet until I restart the modem.
