I'll give the driver a shot again. I have an ATI Radeon HD 4800 series card. I wonder if my old Windows 7 drivers were causing the problem. I'll uninstall all the ATI stuff again, have Windows install the Microsoft driver, reinstall the ATI stuff minus the driver and see how it goes.

So I'm glad you narrowed down the problem to AMD drivers (which makes sense because I recently installed the drivers in question). But I'm wondering if this is creating new problems? When I originally upgraded to Windows 8, it automatically installed the Windows 8 driver. I had it this way...

Must be because you used the word dump instead of crash :) But for me re-installing only works for playing a few songs before it happens again. It's like a ratty, old Band-Aid that's gotten wet kind of fix. Barely sticks and doesn't really help.
