    Optimisation not available?????

    Hi All,

    New here, name is Chris.

Ok so am loving the 8 experience.. soon to see how I will get on with metro and the charms but I adapt pretty well.

So, I have 2 x OCZ Vertex 4 256gb SSD's. I brought 2 as I planned to run them RAID 0, not doing my homework first, lack of TRIM support meant I did not go ahead with this. Running as 2 single drives so that I get the TRIM and don't stuff my drives.

However.. see attached, 8 is saying Optimisation not available?? How comes?

Storage controller driver; Windows 8 standard one, C600 Series Chipset SATA RAID Controller - v.

I did install the proper Intel Drivers for my chipset, Intel Rapid Storage Technology Enterprise (Intel RSTe) v. - However I was getting lower benchmarks with this driver so rolled back to the original ones and uninstalled the Intel software, could this be my problem?

Any thoughts appreciated. Don't really want to rebuild unless I have to...

SOLVED!!! Although the SSD's were not in a RAID configuration, they were still NON-MEMBER RAID DISCS. Setting BIOS mode to AHCI mode and installing the OS has now allowed me to TRIM my SSD's. This is a pitty as now I will have to software RAID my other disks and many forums advise that even though an SSD is a NON-MEMBER disc, it should still do TRIM.. not in my case running Intels RSTe

I was under the impression that Intel Rapid Storage is not recommended for SSD's, as it is results in lower speeds for SSD's rather than not using it.

I'd have to grab a citation for you, but I do not use it on my Intel SSD equipped thinkpad, as recommended per the Lenovo community, and considering I get an under 4 second boot time in Windows 8, and very fast drive access times, I haven't found a need to question that advice.
