Strange event recorded.

What does this mean.

ESENT 910 Performance

svchost (1280) The database cache size maintenance task has taken 60 seconds without completing. This may result in severe performance degradation. Current cache size is 9 buffers above the configured cache limit (190 percent of target). Cache size maintenance evicted 1 buffers, made 4149 flush attempts, and successfully flushed 0 buffers. It has run 3796 times since maintenance was triggered.

I have currently 1 similar event that happened some days ago, with different numbers
Windows 8, otherwise, works fine here.

I had something similar on Win7. Looked all over the web, and no clear solution to me.

Easy Fix: the problem is Windows Update. From Windows Explorer, right-click on the C: Drive and select Properties. Select the Disk Cleanup button. Wait for the scan to complete. In the new window, select the Clean up system files button. Wait again for the scan to complete. In the new window, make sure the Windows Update files checkbox is enabled. Select OK and Windows will solve your problem.

That fix doesn't work.

Issue comes back.

event 910 ESENT

having the same difficulty myself, I believe the following is worthwhile. it is not THE answer but it may be worth pursuing for a while.

For the example... the process taskhostex ... has a PID = 2524.
To see the PID, open Task Manager and using the View\ Select Columns menu\ check the PID (Process Identifier) option."


there are many cache piles in various places each associated with various processes in W8 (where I am working).
knowing the PID may be helpful.
Also, there is a "Cache" Task in Task Scheduler [CP\AdminTools\Task Scheduler\MS\Windows\Wininet\] that is doing something, what I don't know. However, the text associated with the Event Notice indicates a tremendous amount of work needs to be done, is not being done, and whatever cache is actually effected, is bloated and not be maintained well !!

Some questions, if you don't mind..

Is this a virtual install?

What version of ESET (and be specific please) are you running and what components are active? Have you tried disabling any of them?

Does ESET have some type of self checking utility that might have a log? If it does, since I do not know what might be in it, I cannot ask you to attach it. But you could analyze and pick out possibly relevant parts.

I was thinking about installing ESET to test if I could get the same error, so I needed the specifics so I would have the same configuration. I did not realize this was an old thread.

But I did see something online concerning clearing the ESET update Database. If you have not done that, you might try.

It appears you are talking about ESET AV and not "ESENT"?
I don't have ESET installed on my PC and was not trying to install ESET at the time I got an error message.

Sorry, I started off thinking ESENT was the Anti-virus but had been misspelled. I now see it is some type of Database engine. You can disregard my entire post.

Now that I understand what it actually is, maybe I will do some research.
