Hi guys. I have windows 8 on my computer. Yesterday I turned on my laptop and it says scanning and repairing drive but it keeps getting stuck on 28%. Can anyone help me? I can't install windows 7 again because you need to get past the start up screen, which I can't. Any help appreciated.

Yep, that does sound like a hard drive fault. Do you have an install DVD or USB drive.
Preferably, if you can, pop out the hard drive from your laptop and connect it to a desktop. Scan and repair it. Also, try to recover important data if you can. Pop the hard drive back into the laptop and boot it up. Have the install disk or drive ready as chances you may need to repair Windows files or reinstall it.

Also had that problem. Happened to my second drive. Scan and repair starts normally then straight jumps up to 27%. Then it gets stuck. When I take off the hard drive it boots up from my main one normally. Any ideas on what to do?(Windows 8)

I had the same problem, stalled at 27% running scandisk over 3 hours. Restored my hard drive with my Acronis True Image 2013 Backup and within 30 minutes I was up and running, problem gone. Ran manufacturers diagnostics on the hard drive, showed no errors.

Try running sfc /scannow using the linked tutorial and, if no fix, then try running automatic repair using the linked tutorial. Of course, you could reverse the order.
