Windows 8 Bootup Time

Hello folks,

I installed Windows 8 Enterprise as a part of dual boot with Windows 7. I have used Windows Easy Transfer from Windows 7 and restored it on both Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Windows 7 seems to load normally within a minute or two. However Windows 8 is taking 7-9 minutes to boot up. It's taking time as if Windows 8 is being used for the first time like installing apps and getting ready. It's really frustrating  as my Hyper-V and Oracle Virtual Box works only on Windows 8.

Any help is greatly appreciated !!

Do you have startup items running? I had a similar issue where Windows wasn't starting up as fast as before and I found I had 12 things running at startup.

I don't think this is an issue with start up items. Every time laptop is restarted, I see the screens seen when booted for the first time after installation. It's driving me crazy waiting for 7 minutes.

You can check to see if there are any startup items in Task Manager under the Startup tab just to be certain.

Could you share the specs of your laptop? Also, are you saying that Windows takes a lot of time at the black bootscreen with the blue Start logo and the loading animation is spinning?

I have a feeling your laptop's hard drive could have disk errors on it. When you installed Windows 8, was it a custom install or an upgrade?

I've seen something like that on a laptop that had Windows 7 on it that would literally take almost 10 minutes to startup and even longer to log into the Desktop. The hard drive was damaged...

Just an opinion.
I don't think Easy transfer is going to work between two OSs - particularly Windows 8- You probably have a load of path and driver problems trying it that way.

Use several different computers during a day, so specs are irrelevant.
I am booting up in Win8 in less than 10 seconds on a Western Digital Caviar Black hard drive. New install and no "tweaks" or mods yet...
