Something just cropped up today with Win8 retail. When I go to copy or move a file or to delete a file, the whole process can basically freeze, taking minutes to move or delete a few megs. Happens about 50% of the time. I have Directory Opus and same issue so not a file explorer problem. I REALLY do not want to have to reload Win8 AGAIN, it will be my third time!

Might of had a fix. I just started reinstalling every damn thing ASUS had for Intel chipset drivers on my mobo. SEEMS to be working...

Nope, another hang...

Hi there
I had this problem with the RP version (Release preview) if I had a USB2 stick inserted at the same time as I was doing file operations. Note a USB2 STICK not a USB drive. I also had a wireless USB keyboard and mouse so it could be something to do with the USB controller.

Removing the USB stick cured the problem.

I haven't experienced this on the RTM W8 but I'm using the Enterprise version.

Cheers
jimbo

Thanks Jimbo! I didn't have a USB thumb drive installed BUT I had removed a hard drive (my temporary backup drive) the night before. I still don't see what the issue is but I am trying various things to see what could be causing it...

Bad hard drive. The drive is showing 100% usage when I am trying to copy/paste to/from it. Problem solved.
EDIT, drive is fine. Its just that it does not like being in a 6Gb/s SATA port any more! i just moved it unto a normal SATA port and works fine.
