I had bought an HP laptop last year around this time, which had Windows 8.1 pre-installed. I used it with default settings till I upgrade it to Windows 10 last July-August when Microsoft offered a Free upgrade to Windows 7 / 8 / 8.1 users. After somehow managing to use Win'10 for about 9 months, I had to reinstall Windows last weekend as Windows 10 had started causing lot of problems.
I have now freshly reinstalled Windows 8.1 (auto-recovery) on my laptop and wish to continue using this version until Windows 10 becomes more stable and reliable. While tinkering with the settings on Windows 8.1, I noticed that my system has been configured by Windows with virtual memory far less than "recommended size" it mentions. The "recommended size" is 3549, while it has allocated 1408. I have left the "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" checked as set by default. I have 4Gb RAM on my system, which runs on Windows 8.1 64-bit OS.
Would like to know if I should manually change the virtual memory size to the "recommended size" as I read that changing virtual memory can boost performance in Windows significantly.
