    What software do you use?

For too long now I've had to rely on freeware I've downloaded from sources like Cnet to maintain my computers. While some have worked, But the performance has been marginal at best. For example, I've used programs that found issues, yet don't fix them unless you pay $xx.xx for them, and you're not even sure this is the best program for maintaining a computer or not. So since I want the best I can afford, What software would you use to keep your systems virus, malware, firewall, along with driver updating and performance tweaking features. It'd be nice if this all came in one complete package, but I doubt any one program will do all that and do it well. Suggestions? Comments?

I guess you can look at Auslogics Boostspeed..

How to Speed Up Your Computer-Best Software to Increase PC Speed

but I dont care for the way the company tries to force you into things.. like the way they advertise and try to push you to buy and do things.. you'll see when you try the program.. but it does have all that maintenance stuff for windows which you are probably looking for..

there are many programs.. probably start looking through majorgeeks..

My surfing habits are quite benign. I don't do porn, or even social media. Just news, DIY, computer, and firearms forums mostly, as well as occasional research. For removing accumulated junk files and such, I use the free version of CCleaner. For antivirus, I use Windows Defender (and have never been infected). For malware, I occasionally run the free version of Malwarebytes. As for system tweaking, I lost interest in doing that around the time Windows XP came on the scene. With early versions of Windows, tweaking could be quite successful, but in later versions it's not so necessary or effective.

I always download programs only from the developer's website or some trustworthy site like this one. Never from CNET or other such places - no telling what you'll get hidden in the program you're downloading.

MajorGeeks is a trustworthy website.. Its really a funny story because It's a guy apparently that used to work at Cnet a long time ago and hated them and started his own website for programs.. that's the story I've heard anyway..

but When people start accusing majorgeeks of something wrong he tries to fix any and everything as soon as possible so he seems legit and even tells you if there are pop ups in the installers and things to watch out for if you get this and that program..

anyway, you should run the other programs from bleepingcomputer to test your system on if you've been "infected" or not..

    things like -

    Hitman Pro
    Malewarebytes anti-root and anti-malware
    SecurityCheck -- written by microsoft!
    Sophos Virus removal Tool

all of these can be found at

you run through those and tell me if you have been infected.. ha
