Perhaps your virus scanner is reading the files and slowing things try. Try it without virus software running.
I have large movie collection, I have tell my virus software ignore the "movie folder" so it doesn't slow down things when I stream my movies.

    Win 8 Pro - 64Bit

Thanks for all the comments guys.

I had e-mailed the supplier about the problem on Monday, and yesterday in the post arrived a replacement for one of the Sticks to try (no warning, it just turned up).
I tried it last night and it was transferring the same files as I tried before - but this time at an average of 50Mb/s.

I tried it several times last night and quite a few times this morning with consistent results.
I e-mailed him this morning, and although he doesn't understand the problem or its cause, he is sending me a replacement for the second drive and told me to bin the 'faulty' ones.

So providing that performs as well, and that they continue to perform - I am happy.

I have an old W7 system and a new W8.1 system. The W7 system is WIRED to the modem. The W8.1 is WIRELESS. The W7 writes data to my NAS at about 36MBps, which, someone suggested was as fast as I could get on my gigabit modem. The W8.1 writes data to the same NAS through the same modem...

Any decent USB3 cards available for non USB3 mobos
Hi there Has anybody found any USB3 cards yet that actually give anything like proper USB3 speed on a Mobo that didn't originally have any USB3 cards. Most of the stupid PCI-e cards have transfer speeds little better than decent USB2 devices. Comparing a decent USB3 external HDD transfer speed...

USB3 - still missing a new Intel USB3 driver
Anybody know of a beta-driver for USB3 and a Z77 Intel chipset? (on a MSI mobo) My USB3 is so sloow compared to same port in Windows 7. My daily backup of files, drawings and reports takes a LOT of time. This might be a windows 8 killer, if Intel and MS can't solve it.
