Windows 8 painfully slow since buying new laptop

For the past year my Windows 8 laptop has been woefully slow (for example 30 secs to open Task Manager) and is almost unusable. I have checked for malware, viruses, removed every program I don't need, defragmented, emptied temp files, completed a factory reset, removed extra Acer 'Utilities' etc. Nothing has helped!

If I use other programs such as Word, PowerPoint etc then they invariably end up unresponsive and have to be shut down and restarted; normally to just repeat the process. I have noticed that even with no programs open I am using around 80-99% CPU usage.

I am at the end of my patience, if I don't get it fixed by the end of the month I am going to part with 900 for a MacBook as I am absolutely fed up with Windows.

    RAM - 4 Gb
CPU - AMD A4-1250 APU with Radeon HD Graphics
    Operating System - Windows 8 (64 Bit)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Am I buying the best laptop for the price?
I'm currently in the process of buying a new laptop, and out of the ones that I've looked at so far, the Asus N56Z seems like the best choice for the price. I live in Europe so the price is around 1450 in US dollars for that Asus laptop, and I'd prefer not spending more than 1500 US dollars....

Windows 8 Disk Manager is painfully slow
Any ideas what could cause Disk Manager to lock-up every few seconds? All harddrives (two internal SATA, one external SATA) read healthy, and show no errors under CHKDSK. I have no SSD's, so it shouldn't be a compatibility issue. I did read about an issue with Mushkin and one of Intel's...
