How can I set maximum level of battery charge for notebook

I really hope you can answer this simply request.

Nowadays is pretty common to have a new Ultrabook, laptop or notebook for general purposes. A very important feature is to have a healthy battery. We all know that Lithium-batts do a terrific job and are more resistant than never, but after many years of experience, I've learnt that having a software like "Eco charge, Battery care, Smart charge...etc " is a clever and vital feature already present in major brands BUT HP, believe or not. I've just received a new Ultrabook Spectra x360 with windows 8.1, and so far I cannot find any special battery function for this request, even worst nobody can answer in their forum either; I really can't understand this flaw in HP. So, I'd like to know is there any reliable battery software that can allow me to keep the battery charge to 80% and no more, even connected to AC power.

I've seen several that keep info about battery and how to optimize but none with the simple function that I need.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

I honestly don't think it is possible to change what is built into the hardware and ACPI that ships with the computer. Would take a program that can access and change the settings in ACPI and this most likely would have to come from the manufacturer.

Thanks Popeye, I imagine you're right. After seen SONY, TOSHIBA, SAMSUNG...among others that includes this simple and important function, I can't believe that an important firm like HP doesn't have this into their laptops, incredible. I hope to be bad informed and actually this application does exist. If by any chance you had been told about some general software with this capability, I'll highly appreciate it.

It might also be doable by BIOS settings but again it would have to be coded there to actually add the options and make it possible.

There must be software online that you could get to test and see if you can control the options. I just did a quick google search and found Microsys, not sure if it does what your looking for but wouldn't hurt to look into.

Thanks anyway for your contribution. I had already seen it, it's like many others giving you a lot of info of the battery, BUT nothing about to stop charging the battery and keep it at 80%. My intention is to have available that feature, cause my last ultrabook ( Toshiba with Eco-Charge ) kept its battery almost as a new one, even it was 2.5 years old. I'll keep it searching about this, when solved, I'll post it in this forum. By the way, I was thinking if Windows 8 could allow me to access the battery controller and change these parameters, but still nothing found.

I have an Ultrabook, a Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro, (with Windows 8.1), & a Lenovo program called 'OneKey Optimizer' regulates the battery settings. The recommended selection is the 'Conservation Mode' which keeps the battery's power level at 55-60% to prolong battery life.

The onekey optimizer appears to be a lenovo thing. No information on the site if it would work out side of lenovo hardware.

That's right. Many brands have its own "battery care program". Toshiba calls it "Eco charge", Sony as "Battery care", Samsung as "Smart charge"...etc almost all BUT HP , lol ! incredible, such as firm as HP and doesn't have this simple and useful feature.

I just installed onekey on my HP. It picked up my battery and when it was charging. not sure where to find the option to stop it from charging after X%.
Give it a try, you may find it works.
