You should try the SMART test, as well.

If the drive fails both, the drive is failing -- or already failed -- and needs to be replaced.

Task manager, resource monitor and process explorer can diagnose the bottle necks. My laptop exhibits the same 100% disk usage after a large install or update. Windows Tiwork, windows defrag, Norton 360 are usually to blame. Why these programs can not tell that the disk queue is long, the disk usage is high, and the User applications are stalled, and then throttle back is a mystery to me.

Letting the machine idle for an hour fixes the problem for me.

http://www.eightforums.com/performance-maintenance/56761-disk-usage-100-a.html posts describe in detail with screen captures pinpointing the programs consuming disk resources. Norton was the problem for me 1 fourth of the time. The windows defrag and Tiwork were the problem 1/2 of the time. Letting the PC idle for an hour allowed the resource hogging application time to finish the task. 1/4 of the time an adware program slowed down my PC, and task manager and resource manager pinpointed the offending executable.

I installed windows 7 and download steam and began downloading counter strike global offensive whenever I got half way it froze not responded and crashed like before. Now the problem persists again, most likely a costly internal hard drive problem, that sucks
