I've had continuing problems with File History (FH) ever since first installing Windows 8.1 Pro x64. FH is configured to back up user files to a second internal hard disk.
The problems are:
FH doesn't complete its scan reporting Error Event 202 FileHistory-Core "Unusual condition was encountered during scanning user libraries for changes and performing backup of modified files for configuration c:\users\steve\appdata\local\microsoft\windows\filehistory\configuration\config"
Eventually the disk fills up since FH keeps making multiple copies of files which haven't changed
I've reset FH several times by deleting the user config files and FH file storage directories but the problem keeps reappearing. SFC / SCANNOW reports no errors.
A Google search suggests this is a common problem. hHs anyone found a solution to this problem and is there a better way of completely resetting FH?
Have you turned off AV and UAC to see if it works then? Maybe boot into Safe Mode and see if it works. Will at least help to find out if some other service or setting is messing it up.
Well my fix lasted for a few days until the same problem reappeared. File History does appear to be very prone to errors. Are there any reliable fixes? See the enclosed Event 202 & 203 error reports.
