Solved How do I delete a Service?

I uninstalled a program recently and believed I had cleared out everything related to it. But after noticing an error in Event Viewer I find there is still a related service trying to run.

Can I delete this service, and if so, how should I do it?

You may be able to disable it in services.msc

I've disabled it for now (and stopped it interacting with the desktop for good measure!) but would still like to delete it if possible, as the program caused me some grief and I just want rid of it completely.

So other contributions would be welcomed .

Try Revo Uninstaller to remove the remnants of it. You may also check with the program manufacturer if they have a removal tool

If you have removed the original files, it will not run, but you can remove it from registry.
Just find out, what it is called and find the string and delete the whole folder, like:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CTAudSvcService]

Well I removed it with a separate uninstaller program from the same manufacturer, which also scanned for leftover registry entries etc. Foolishly I thought this would have done the trick .

On the Service Properties the Path to Executable is blank, but after some detective work I found 2 entries, one in

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\

and one in

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\

If I delete both of these do you think that should get rid of it?

(A little off topic: I visited Slovakia last year; a very nice country )

I guess, that the uninstaller did its job, have you restarted PC already?
If no, do it and if the entries are still there, remove them and restart again.

Yes I had restarted after uninstalling.

I've just uninstalled the Service in one of the Control Set entries and this removed it from the other as well. Restarted they've definitely disappeared and all seems well.

You can also delete a service from a command prompt (elevated of course): "sc delete <servicename>"
No quotes on the cmd line.
