Disk Usage 100%

Hello, i bought new laptop a few weeks ago, without OS, so i installed [FONT=wf_SegoeUI]Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Pro with Update licenced from microsoft. And i'm having problem with disk usage. i tryed everysinglething to fix it but as you can see i'm here!!.. really i can't understand why its usage 100%. Please if you have any solution share with me ! iwill add some screenshots about my laptop status,[/FONT]

Nothing wrong with that.
Windows can be doing a lot of scheduled tasks on Power up, Indexing, updates etc. On a new PC a lot of that is going on.

You need to look at other Tabs in the Task Manager - App History, Start-up, Processes. Click the Disk column to sort and identify the worst offenders then go to that software and do some configuring where possible.

Again in the Processes Tab expand the details and you will be able to suss out possibilities.

For example in App history stuff. You can go the Apps and stop live tile updates obviously on the ones you don't use or uninstall them.

That's what you would expect on starting Photoshop. Again probably doing some of it's own indexing, updating, loading modules etc or something like that. Most software can be configured to an extent.

No idea why you are fiddling around with system performance, That's Windows memory management.

First off, minor point, but that's disk activity, not usage. Might seem trivial, but sometimes those trivial details make all the difference. If you car dies on the side of the road is it because you're out of gas or some other issue, for example. Secondly, how long do you wait after the computer has booted to see if this activity level has dropped off? And you are, I presume, aware of the performance limitations of a 5400rpm drive like yours. They will have more frequent and sustained periods of high disk activity like you describe.

its ss when i start google chrome its not normal !

its when i power on my laptop so i should wait 3-4 minutes to get 3%-10% but still its not normal when i use anything its lagging for example photoshop it should't lag...

Whether it's normal or not depends on what else you may have running at the time. But from your screenshot, it looks like something within those two service host processes is the source of your problems, so you'll need to expand each of those options and then start googling each process you find. You can also go to the performance tab and use the link at the bottom to open the resource manager to get a more technical breakdown. It might help narrow things down a little.

Just off the top of my head, things like a virus scanner could do this, if you have some program performing background defragmentation, some program may be updating in the background... There are a lot of potential explanations which are completely normal and to be expected, so you need to rule those out before we go on to say it's not normal.

Attached is a task manager and resource monitor when the system boots up after an update. As shown the defragsvc and n360 (Norton backup 360) are causing the average disk response time to exceed 2 seconds. The computer is unusable in this state. Waiting for the services to complete dissolves the logjam. Though why the developers do not throttle these applications back is a mystery, which I would appreciate an answer to. 2345ms.PNG

Try avoiding anything by Norton/Macaffee or pretty much any software that 'came free' with your machine.

Have you tried just leaving it on overnight? If you recently installed windows then you also probably installed lots of updates. There is a part of the update process that continues even after an update-requested reboot that will tie up the disk for quite a while. Add to that the need to index the machine for searching.

Leaving the machine idle for overnight will let all this stuff take over the machine and finish up. Afterwards the system will calm down. Worth a shot and it's easy to do!

Uninstall everything that your computer came with that isn't drivers..

You need to be very picky about what is on your computer.. otherwise this happens..

if you don't know about something just ask or google it.. but If you aren't too crazy about your settings now and you have a backup cd or usb .. or clone of your hard drive,,

just clean install windows again and then slowly get specific programs that you want on your computer.. and then come back here tell us if your computer is 100% using disk like that..


edit* - oh and thats some crappy write speed too haha.. might wanna check into buying a cheap SSD hard drive.. i have the samsung 840 EVO 250gig for $120-150.. something around there.. i can't remember what i really paid..
