High Hardware reserved memory

Hi all.

Been having an issue for a few months now i have 4gb corsair dominator gt ram installed but my system in only showing 1.96gb usable and looking in resource monitor its showing 2091 mb as system reserved


cpu: OctalCore AMD FX-8120, 4000 MHz
Motherboard Name Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P
Module Name Corsair Dominator GT CMT4GX3M2A2133C9
Video Adapter AMD Radeon HD 7950 (3gb)

is this a resolvable issue ive reinstalled and problem is still there

Ive tried booting of one DIMM and it boots fine bios shows 4gb as well im stuck

I don't think there is anything you can do about it. I had a similar problem with my Dell Precision 370.
had 4GB ram but only 3GB was useable, 1Gb was reserved and could not be changed.

Lots of hits on Google but not fixes I could find.

If you are not running into "free memory error" it's not a big problem because some of that reserved memory will be released when necessary. BTW, with 4GB of RAM with an 8 core processor you are at it's minimum requirements or even under maybe. Normal amount would be 1GB per core, so you may be loosing some of it's performance.

What do you mean "For a few months now" ??

Did something change ?

Does windows report 4 GB ?

Every motherboard is different, if you`re not happy with it, by all means scrap it.

That board supports 32 GB of memory, so there`s not reason not to put at least 16 GB in.
