Running Windows 8 on Pentium Dual Core setup

  1. #11

We just upgraded 44 PC's at our church by replacing the old hard drives with a 120GB SSD. The user's store their data on a file server, so the 120GB is plenty for their OS and applications. These are all 3-10 year old Dell PC's and as long as they have a SATA port on the motherboard, we replaced the hard drive and the improvement was immediate and significant! For $60 per PC, we are now able to get a little bit more life out of these old PC's and if the PC dies, we can remove the SSD and use it elsewhere. I cloned the hard drive to the SSD and it was quick and easy!

    Windows 8.1 64-bit

The only obvious reason I can see why 8 would run so slow is the DDR2 ram you mentioned. Windows 8 is less demanding than vista and 7 since it has a minimalistic design (no aero). If your PC supports DDR3 then great- upgrade to it; 4 is a good amount but I prefer 8gb+

Hope this helps, and more questions reply to this or send me a direct message,

DDR2 to DDR3, there's only less than 1% of impact on system speed. That only benchmarking programs can see.
