Hi, I am new here and I am pissed off and looking for help. I will rely on this forum to help me out, since every internet link I've clicked on does not solve my problem.

So the problem is, everytime I startup my pc, it pops up a message saying:
'Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service.'

After 1 hour of that message, my pc get very hot on the right side and bottom, then auto shuts down because of overheating. Please help me, I have no idea why this is happening, it has happened to me before but I didn't do anything at that time and it stopped popping up randomly, then went away.

Clean all vents and fans if any and away from any heat source that may hinder the cooling of the system. If it is your CPUyou may have to clean it and reapply thermal paste, be very careful doing this.
You may also want to download Speccy to monitor the temperature of the computer.

Since this is a HW problem, it would be beneficial to list type, model, and some HW details.

It seems to be this one here: Click

Doesn't really matter that it's not a Laptop, because there will be not much airflow in that case either.

As a loooooong time overclocker, I've been fighting heat all the time and it's been real pain in the .............. finger (literary burned it few times) and it's a main cause of failures. It could be hardware caused but also software can produce heat. On HW side, dust and errand voltages can overheat components as well as improper ventilation. Laptops overheating when placed on soft surfaces are quite common.
Software can cause it too, runaway processes, malware as well as improper cooling profiles for fans and pumps can be a cause of overheating too. Many laptops and ready made computers come with power saving and cooling profiles and programs and any changes or malfunctions of that software can make havoc with cooling as they are closely connected.

Are we still trying to guess the spec? I bet a dollar it is a Sony (but only as no-one mentioned it yet).

My laptop is a Toshiba, and my specs are here:
Gyazo - d4d659dfc549615a73c09b494c7f26b1.png

My laptop also overheats severely and shuts down by itself when I am idle and not doing anything, this has never happened to me before and it is really piddling me off. I don't know what to do, I don't want to have to send it in for repair if I don't need to either

I am aware of dust build up problems, but that is not my problem, my laptop is as clean as a piece of silverware, glass is cleaned, no dust, nothing. I don't understand

Exterior cleaning is not enough, vents and or fans must be cleaned and clear from obstruction. More importantly it is you CPU that is overheating and if you do not know how to attend to it, a service call would be in order.

Never really said if he uses a can of compressed air to clean out the dust bunnies. I spray into the side cooling fins and through the bottom fan vents about once a week. The dust comes flying out! Can see the air spinning the fan.

Also, with it turned on, can carefully turn it on its side or upside down and see if fan is spinning with a small flashlight shinning through the fan vents.

None of these solve my problem. Also, when starting a new application, I've noticed that my disk usage percentage sky rockets from 1-15% to 100% immediately then back down to 1-15%

I think I mentioned possibility of SW being a factor in overheating. Runaway processes can push processor and graphics to work hard overtime and so do not let system rest as usually does with normal work. That specially applies to laptops, they are, because of compactness, always on an edge to overheating.

Please go to services.msc or msconfig and uncheck any Toshiba startup services.See if you still get the warning,if not, enable formentioned services one by one,to see which (if) service is the culprit. Please do uninstall "Value Added Package" via control panel aswell.
Download CoreTemp and keep an eye on your CPU temparatures, you could even use its inbuilt overheating protection feature, set it up at lets say 85C,have it myself steup like this.If framework give you trouble installing CoreTemp, you might give HWMonitor a go,trusty application.
