I ran 'Wise Registry Cleaner' on my Windows 8 upgraded to 8.1 Dell Inspiron 17R 7720 Laptop. After the software finished scanning and cleaned up 47 errors I re-booted I found I had problems.
When I inserted a USB key I got no notification popup asking me what I wanted to do and the contents of the key were not displayed. I tried several USB keys in 3 different USB ports but the problem was just the same. Apart from that they appear to be usable and work OK.
I then found that when I inserted a DVD there would be no notification popup and the DVD would not run and if I clicked on Autorun 'This PC' greyed out and the icon on the taskbar said it was not responding. The only way to get back to the desktop was to eject the DVD using the eject button on the drive. Strangely as soon as the DVD was ejected the Autorun popup would appear asking what I wanted to do with the DVD.
I have run a Microsoft Autorun fix but it has not fixed the problem. I have searched Google but not found anything that matches my problem.
I ran the same software on my Windows XP Pro SP3 Laptop and found I now have exactly the same problems as my Windows 8.1 Laptop.
I have reported this problem to 'Wisecleaner.com'
Has anyone else experienced this problem and did they find a fix.
Thanks
Jan
