Win 8 Keeps wanting to run Automatic Maintenance

Note: I've restarted the laptop and done sfc /scannow and found no problems.

I didn't use my laptop for most of two weeks because my ac/dc adapter bit the dust. I only had some battery power. During that time, "I" performed no maintenance/update tasks.

After getting a new adapter, the laptop with Windows 8 seems to work fine, but I've noticed that in the Action Center, there is a message that "Automatic Maintenance was delayed..." Fine. I manually ran it ("Run Maintenance"). I've run it several times. It "finishes" whatever it is doing but the "message" (alert to run Auto Maintenance) is there again.

Any good reason it is doing this? Is there something poorly coded that it is trying to "catch up" and not doing it all at once?

It is a bit annoying to see it after I've let it run. It doesn't freeze or so forth. It simply finishes and the message is there again/still.

I didn't notice this prior to this situation, as I believe because I used it consistently, this never happened before.

Also, I haven't noticed any system errors.

Thanks.

Thanks. I tried turning the message off and then back on. The message remains the same even though it "apparently" ran (to completion I guess--I didn't stop it). In the past, after it ran, the message would disappear until the next "valid" delayed run of the Automatic Maintenance. Since you get no progress report when it runs, I don't know what it has done and what it hasn't.

For example, I checked. The HD is 0% fragmented. The updates have all been downloaded.
