Hi,

I've got Toshiba L50-A-19N half of a year old and it started to load everything really slowly or is not responding for a short period of time (acts like frozen for 2-3 second, something like spike). I've done Chkdsk, Memory Diagnose tool, defragmentation. Scanned PC with McAfee, Windows Defender and Malwarebytes. Also reinstalled Windows but nothing helped. Disk seems to be in good health according to Toshiba Health Center and the CPU is not hot, neighter used (7% usage and i still get spikes). Any suggestions on what would help solve this problem ?

Thank you

Lukas

Uninstall McAfee using their removal tool and see if any change in performance.

I used the tool to reinstall Windows completely (cleaned one partition, second one wasn't changed). Also I've been using McAfee for a while and It was slow right after install, but I'll give it a try. Also I noticed that I have 100% disk usage, while sum is like 0,4 kb/sec.

Couple of thoughts:

-Update all drivers, bios updates, software updates, anti virus updates, etc etc
-If you use wireless internet make sure your router is fully updated/your wireless card/adapter is fully updated
-Check your power plan
-Check laptop heat level

If I am looking at the proper spec sheet for that laptop you should have plenty of memory to run Windows 8 efficiently so that isn't the problem. Is the problem only when applications are open or does it occur even when nothing is active?

100% disk usage is normally a sign of an infected system just FYI. I would download malwarebytes and try to do a scan and see what you come up with. Make sure to update malwarebytes first.

So:
- The laptop heat level is not high (Toshiba PC Health Monitor shows me 45%).
- I currently did a clear install of Windows 8, while I formatted both partitions of disk, but the problem persists.
- The problem occurs even when nothing is active.
- I am installing updates, but I had problem with the Windows Update (It could not "download" them ? Kept on 0%).
- My power plan is set on "eco" but It does not matter 'cause problem persists in every power plan that is available.
- I also ran Malwarebytes but with no success
- Also the uninstallation of McAfee did not help.

Could it be problem with Hard Drive ? I've ran chkdsk but it show me no problems and Toshiba PC Health Monitor shows, that Hard Drive is in good condition.

The system is really slow. Also restart took me like 10 minutes. (I've been stuck at the "restarting" screen for 5 minutes and another 5 minutes booting). The spikes are not really a freeze. I can move my mouse, but System / Applications are not responding for a second (It's not always showing, that the application is not responding, when it froze)

The hard drive could be defective yes, I just find it strange that it all of a sudden started to do this. Did you drop the laptop or something? ;)

Edit: Was thinking about this randomly a few moments ago... you said updates would never download and they failed? Did it give a failure message? This may help us to figure out what the problem is.

You may also want to try to get more details on the particular updates that wouldn't work and trying to download manually from the Microsoft website if needed.

Did you reinstall Windows using the Recovery Partition in your computer?

If you did it may be full of bloatware, uninstall any programs you do not need.

Download and run CCleaner (Free)

CCleaner - Download

I did reinstall using Recovery Partition. Also I cleaned my pc with CCleaner and uninstalled the programs I dont need. I downloaded the HDTune, and It shows warning at Reallocated Sector Count with 9800 data. I think I will use my warrancy.
