Hi! New to the forums, just want to consult something regarding my laptop's problem. You see, my laptop (Asus A45V) is only 7 months old, this was originally from my father but since he isn't using it anymore he gave it to me. The problem goes like this, after he gave the laptop to me, i reformatted the laptop (reset to factory settings) then i noticed even after the reformat the laptop is slow. I tried to update every drivers and BIOS but the problem still persists. Sometimes it even hangs up and i can't do anything but to wait. And also i downloaded a game (which i truly believe the laptop can handle it since the requirements isn't that high end, the game's Heroes of Newerth) I can't even play it normally even on low settings the game runs very slow. The question is, what could be the problem? i posted my laptop's specs below:

CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3230M CPU @ 2.60GHz
Motherboard: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. K45VD
BIOS: 231
Total Memory: 2.00GB Usable: 1.88GB
HDD: WDC WD7500BPVT-80HXZT3
Sound Card: (1) Intel(R) Display Audio (2) Bluetooth Audio Device (3) Realtek High Definition Audio (4) NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM)
Graphics Card: (1) NVIDIA GeForce 610M (2) Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
OS: Microsoft Windows 8 Single Language 64-bit 9200 Multiprocessor Free

Any help will be appreciated, Cheers! :)

You did a factory reset which means a lot of bloat ware that you don't need, get rid of what is not necessary. Is there an AV program installed? You might consider getting rid of that also using whatever removal tool that is available for it and use built in Windows Defender.

In addition to the above, 2GB of RAM is a minimum for 64bit Version. You should consider upgrade your RAM too.

Yes, there's a AV installed (which i am not familiar with the brand name) and a lot of ASUS applications. Never knew that i could be able to upgrade my laptop's RAM, maybe i'll give it a shot

The more RAM the merrier. If I understand correctly, your unit is upgradable to 8GB but you should confirm this with the computer manufacturer. The very minimum you should be looking at is 4GB.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Do i need specifically an ASUS K45VD RAM so that it would be compatible?

No. But be aware that if you have only two RAM slots and have 2GB installed now then you would have to install two 4GB RAM sticks and remove the 2GB stick totally to get 8GB.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. the Crucial Scanner says:
Maximum memory: 8192MB
Slots: 2 (2 banks of 1)
*Not to exceed manufacturer supported memory.

I don't quite understand the "2 banks of 1"

It simply means there are 2 slots (banks) and you can add memory 1 module (stick) at a time. You could add a 6GB stick to get to 8GB but it is better to have the same size and same manufacturer (matched) RAM in both slots.

That tool I pointed you to will show you the options.

You won't find RAM labeled " asus k45vd ram ". They buy it from another manufacturer. Depending on the hardware there is a maximum size and maximum speed supported. I can go to ASUS and get a "Qualified Vender List" that lists various RAM modules that have been tested with my motherboard. I can also look in my motherboard manual and see the different speeds and sizes of module I can put in each slot. For my ASUS K75DE, ASUS lists DDR3 1600 MHz SDRAM, 2 x SO-DIMM socket for expansion up to 8 GB SDRAM. It's all a matter of doing your research. Also keep in mind that laptops us SO-DIM modules which are smaller than the RAM modules you find in a desktop PC. One is not compatible with the other and they are not interchangeable.
