Windows 8.1 Update 1 File History after a restore?

I ran into a minor problem with Acronis True Image 2014 after letting MSFT install Update 1 on my system. For some reason the desktop Icons go blank for ~15 seconds when I boot. As soon as I uninstall TI the problem goes away. The problem also seems to go away if I "turn off" Auto Logon to my Microsoft Account. Base on all my Acronis Forum discussions I must be the only person in the world with this problem! The stand alone version of TI 2014 works OK. I will continue to use the standalone version of TI 2014 to backup the system (Boot Partition) periodically since I know it works and has saved me from disaster numerous times.

So...I'm ready to let W8.1 handle my data backups using the File History function. Dumb question - if I do a system restore because of a virus or whatever will W8.1 be able to use the file history maintained by the version of W8.1 that was wiped out by the restore? The file history will be on a separate disk drive.

If File History is on an external drive, yes. I have turned it off, of no use to me and saves resources. If you are satisfied with TI and it works for you, stick with it.

I have had no problems with it after updating to 8.1 update 1. Check for updates in TI and if the problem continues, TI support may help you.

I planned to use one of my 500GB raptors for the "File History" Drive. Meaning it will be connected to a SATA port. The drive will be online whenever the computer is turned on.

Repeat my original question - if I do a system restore because of a virus or whatever will W8.1 be able to use the file history maintained by the version of W8.1 that was wiped out by the restore?

As far a Acronis Technical Support is concerned all they will do is give me boiler plate responses saying my software (TI 2014) is out of the support period and if I want help from them pay up! Bye-Bye Acronis! The fact that TI 2014 was working OK under W8.1 but went slight bonkers as soon as I installed Upate 1 meant nothing.

If you mean to do a restore from the external drive the answer is yes.

Another option is to use Macrium Reflect or Aomei Backuper for your backup, both are Free.
