Need help making uTorrent lower priority than browsing

Hi :)

I am running uTorrent and my daughter (and I) are finding that when the torrents are running the browsers are slow.

I am wondering whether there is a setting in uTorrent that I haven't been able to find (I have looked - promise!) that makes uTorrent take a lower priority for bandwidth than anything else going on.

If I'm not wrong, I could go to each torrent and mark it a low priority (this would work, no?), but there are quite a few running and I would like to have this as a permanent setting.

I'd be very greatful if anyone could help with this, and I'm sure my daughter will be too!

Thanks...

Thanks Ztruker and Hairy Scot...

Hairy - if I'm not wrong, lowering the bandwidth settings in uTorrent will cap the speed all the time, whereas I want it to be basically an open throttle for uTorrent when the system is not otherwise being used. Is that right? If so, it's not what I wanted to achieve.

Ztruker - As I understand it, lowering the priorities on my computer will only work locally, won't it? Will it still give priority to my daughter using the computer in her room? How will the uTorrent running on my computer know when my daughter is using the computer in her room on the WiFi?

My daughter's at Uni, so it's really important that I can get this sorted out as much of her work is done online. I know I can just run the torrents overnight only, but, I'm sure there's a way to do this.

I'm thinking maybe it needs to be done through my modem???

If it helps, the modem is NetComm NB604N

Thanks, again :)

@BC
You could check how to set up and implement QoS on your modem/router.
WiFi connections are very much slower than cable so it may also be worth looking at providing a cable connection to your daughter's PC.
