File History and Memory Usage

I'm not sure if I'm using File History properly, even though it seems to be a plug-and-play type of feature. The situation is: when I leave my USB Flash Memory device plugged into the laptop, and the frequency of backup is set to every 10 minutes, it seems that some of the memory is being nibbled away at, even though I haven't created or changed any files. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

After minimal changes in documents, or creating new documents, the free memory on my flash card went from 105GB to 66GB. I hadn't included my Pictures or Music in the backups. I decided to reformat the flash drive and copy and paste the desk top, documents, and music and pictures; music and pictures take up 24GB of memory. After moving all of the above to the flash drive, I now have 22GB more free memory on the flash drive. Can someone explain this to me. I really don't understand why the File History, without pictures and music, uses more memory and keeps depleting it. Thanks.
