Edit: laptop might also chrash while in airplane mode, however making an internet connextion is still a surefire way to make it crash.

Seemingly out of nowhere my laptop has been freezing usually minutes after I started it up. I can then restart my laptop and it works for another few minutes and freezes again. While looking at task manager I noticed the disk going up to 100%, however the individual processes did not account for this 100% use.

I tried to increase/decrease my virtual memory but this did not seem to have any effect.
After screwing around a bit with clean reboot I think I have found the cause of my problem.
When My computer makes an internet connection for something, a browser or a game, it will skyrocket the disk usage to 100% and freeze. I can start my laptop with all processes and services enabled and when I put it on airport mode nothing will be wrong. however once I enable internet and surf around for about 1 minute my computer will freeze. this happened for multiple browsers and also for multiple games. Also I am currently typing this from my brothers laptop with the same internet connection. I have no idea how to fix this. Help would be much appriciated.

Hello darkieee,

One thing to check is to open Resource Monitor, and click on the Disk tab to help see what is using so much.

Resource Monitor - Windows 7 Help Forums

It wouldn't hurt to also do a full scan of your system with an AV program like the free MalwareBytes Ant-Malware Free to help make sure it's clean.

Hope this helps for now, :)
Shawn

I opened resource monitor and made it freeze by opening chrome.

The highest total b/sec were
Some chrome processes totaling about 1,3 milion combined
And System PID is 4 whatever that means had 1 milion.
The higheat below thoae was 300k so i doubt they are relevant. This does not look strange to me.

Gonna run a scan now.

Issue still persisted in clean boot. Also once the error happens it seems like all things space dont get resources anymore so task manager ans resource manager dont show anything.

Thanks anyways for your time and ill look at it aome more this evening

I used system restore, and my laptop seems to be working fine so far. Still have absolutely no idea how it happened. Thanks for the responses.

I had the same problem which occurred immediately after upgrading from 8 to 8.1. I spent a lot of time following suggestions but what worked instantly for me was I came across a post which at first I thought was a company promotion saying that CCLEANER would solve the problem with their registry clean-up tool, and it's free. I downloaded the software and ran the registry cleaner three times (rebooting each time) and problem solved. My disk usage is running along at 5-10% and no more time wasted. I was just about to the point of buying a new computer but have to thank this company for saving me the time and money.

simple Stop BITS from running from you local services quoted
Go to charms bar and press search, then type view local services.
Once here, stop and disable BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service). Also, set windows update checks to manual.
Chrome also seemed to be a factor so uninstall that too
