Ran SFC /SCANNOW which found errors it could not fix.

Ran Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and it failed with an error:

Attaching a SFCandDISM.zip which contains sfcdetails.txt which is the output of

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt

and dism.log.

I looked at your logs and there are 4 KBs that cannot be verified (eg, component hash failures); however, the bigger question is:

"What issue prompted you to run these commands in the first place?"

Once the real issue is known, then maybe the failures will make more sense.

No issue. I was looking at another thread about creating a batch file to run SFC and DISM so thought I would try it. Both shouldn't cause a problem and should run successfully.

I'll try the suggestions and see what happens.

I have UAC fully disabled but will try DISM from a Elevated Command Prompt and Safe Mode. Thanks.

I saw linked post on another site and though it might be helpful. There are some options I was not aware of if you use the command below to get help on that subject.

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /?

Dism online restore health function gets error 0x80240021 - Microsoft Community

Maybe start with the command below to see if it shows anything..

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup should partially resolve the issue. You'll also need to run sfc again. Make sure that the PendingDeletes and PendingRenames folders exist under %WinDir%\WinSxS\Temp.

The attached file is a scripted version of all the commands.

I've already looked at the google responses, thanks.

From what I'm reading, the fix is to reinstall Windows 8, which I'm not about to do as it runs great. I'll live with it.

Out of all the files listed I can only match up a single entry. The following commands should fix this item.

1) takeown /F "C:\ESD\Windows\sources\luainstall.dll" /R /A
2) icacls "C:\ESD\Windows\sources\luainstall.dll" /GRANT ADMINISTRATORS:F
3) copy /y "C:\ESD\Windows\sources\luainstall.dll" "C:\Windows\System32\luainstall.dll"

If someone running the same version of Windows 8 as Rich could post the SystemLook.txt that would be helpful.

Had to drop /R from takeown as it generated a "Not a directory" error.
C:\Users\rrkurtz>takeown /F "C:\ESD\Windows\sources\luainstall.dll" /A
SUCCESS: The file (or folder): "C:\ESD\Windows\sources\luainstall.dll" now owned by the administrators group.

C:\Users\rrkurtz> icacls "C:\ESD\Windows\sources\luainstall.dll" /GRANT ADMINISTRATORS:F

C:\Users\rrkurtz>copy /y "C:\ESD\Windows\sources\luainstall.dll" "C:\Windows\System32\luainstall.dll"

Tried to take ownership of "C:\Windows\System32\luainstall.dll" but that failed.
C:\Users\rrkurtz>icacls "C:\Windows\System32\luainstall.dll" /GRANT ADMINISTRATORS:F
C:\Windows\System32\luainstall.dll: Access is denied.

Aha! Installed the Takeown registry hack then used the context menu Take Ownership on luainstall.dll. Now the copy worked.

C:\Users\rrkurtz>copy /y "C:\ESD\Windows\sources\luainstall.dll" "C:\Windows\System32\luainstall.dll"
1 file(s) copied.

For some reason that did the exact opposite of what was supposed to happen.

Try this:

Copy the file here.. C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-luainstaller_31bf3856ad364e35_6.2.9200.16384_none_718018daf20f86f3\luainstall.dll

Paste it into.. C:\Windows\System32\

Next, make sure you have all Windows Updates installed, including optional ones.

Open Windows Defender and run a manual Update.

Rerun SFC /scannow.
